6 Things independent Musicians need to do post-pandemic

This article is straightforward, but I have been pondering this article for a very long time. Throughout the pandemic and hundreds of podcasts, I started formulating an idea that I feel musicians need to follow in a Post-Pandemic world. These 6-tips are things I have seen work for various musicians. I think these 6-tips will help musicians become happy, successful, and independent.

6 - BUILD YOUR CREATIVE TRIBE

This one is pretty straightforward, but surround yourself with people you vibe with personally and creatively. It doesnt necessarily have to be fellow musicians but people that are creative. You want to find people that will challenge you, support you, and help advance you. Approach this like building a sports team which will make this mutually beneficial.

5 - LEARN HOW TO RECORD MUSIC

When I say learn how to record your music, I don't necessarily mean to learn to cut out producers. There is a lot of value in having a studio and producer to work with. I am telling you to learn how to record your own music for 2-reasons. First, knowing how to record music opens up a clear line of communication with the producer/engineer. Lastly, It gives you the ability to experiment with your own sound. Doing it on your own time allows you to come in with fresh ideas (even if they're not flushed out).

4 - PLAY LIVE SHOWS AS OFTEN AS POSSIBLE

This one doesnt need much explanation, but get out and play shows. Decide how many shows a week you feel you can physically play and how far you are willing to travel. Then start booking shows following those parameters. If your show limit is 2-shows a week within 3 hours, you can build your following by building your core base and expanding outward.

3 - GET ON TWITCH

Don't look at twitch streaming as replacing your live shows. Look at it as public practice sessions because you don't have to be 100% perfect on twitch streams. It brings in your fan base behind the scenes and allows you to interact with them without disrupting your show.

2 - OFFER YOUR MUSIC FOR PLACEMENT IN INTERNET CONTENT

Every musician should be giving their music to internet creators. By offering your music to internet creators, you are getting free promotions. You are also reaching a younger audience.

1 - BE AUTHENTICALLY YOU

The best way to be a successful musician is to be authentically you. Don't let genres define you or limit your creativity. So many musicians feel the need to stay inside a box to fit a mold that limits their creativity. Write the music you want without a worry about "Genre Boundaries" and be Authentically you.
